The End Of The First Semester

Favorite Memories from My First Semester

I am in complete shock that it's actually finals week and my first semester at BMFA will soon be over. I have been so lucky on this journey and have learned so much, not just academically but about myself as well. I can't imagine going to university anywhere else. I decided that I would write this post about some of my favorite memories that have happened within the weeks of this first semester. Though it makes me sad knowing how fast time is going, I am so happy I could document these moments to cherish forever.

Back in my first days in BMFA it was fascinating I'll be honest, my first week at Berbera Maritime University felt like an entire years worth of new information and happenings all in 7 days. However, it seemed to have slipped straight out from under me and before I knew it, it was already Friday and I was drowning with things to get done along with clubs to join, schedules to change, people to meet and even trying to find a time to shower. It has been a crazy 7 days since move in and writing this now, it's crazy to think that just only a week ago I was crying while saying goodbye to my family while spinning questions twirled throughout my mind. I'm so happy to say that the stress I am feeling now, is good stress. I am happy where I'm at in life right now and I'm so ready for this journey.

Throughout my busy first week I was doing things from meeting with freshman mentors and schedule changing to watching a hypnotist in our amphitheater. The first week is so clustered but the best thing you can do for yourself is to get yourself out there and get comfortable with campus. This makes the transition so smooth. I already have my favorite outside study spot.

Go places by yourself. At first I was a little worried about figuring everything else out on my own but turns out, it's nothing to be afraid of. College is all about getting used to being with new people but also being okay with not having anyone but yourself.

It was so hard trying to get organized all week because not only Professors were sending out different syllabi at different times, but also the school and clubs are sending you things to. I had the most success by writing lists and responding to the most important emails and people first, then move onto more social aspects.

I learned that it's so important to smile at people. I've always known this, but smiles can change a whole persons day, especially if they are feeling homesick (which is very likely in the first week). Compliments work the same way too, don't be afraid to talk to someone, everyone appreciates a little compliment here and there.

I am counting my blessings everyday here at BMFA. I am truly so blessed to go to such a wonderful University. I can't wait for the years to come, and I'm so ready to make my mark!

Luckily my first semester ended well and I can smell the results of the straight A's 🤲
As I write this, I have completed 1 final with five more to go. I am so pleased with all my hard work this semester. Yes, I had my breakdowns, break-ups and times where I just wanted to be home, however, I have been killing the game. I am so confident in myself (even though I haven't stopped stress eating since finals have started), happy and just thankful to be at this point in my life. It's only up from here!

Also thanks to my friends as well as Group Mates
